Everywhere the question is being raised "Is Barack Obama a patriotic American?" The answer is no, he is not, at least not as the word is commonly understood as one who loves his country above all earthly things. Before everything Obama is a "world citizen," a humanitarian idealist, a social revolutionary, whose loyalty is to humanity first, to its egalitarian future, the socialist idea. For Obama the interests of our country are a secondary thing. Obama is no more a patriotic American than were Lenin and Stalin patriotic Russians as they lived for the dream of world Communist rule; no more patriotic than was Ayatollah Khomeine who madly said; "let Iran burn so that Islam prevails" as Iran for him was a revolutionary means to Islamic world rule. If Obama is a patriot then he's a bad patriot, a destructive patriot, a patriot from hell; a patriot in the mold of the leftist Paul Robson who defined this noble term as "never being satisfied with one's country." This is the inverted patriotism of national hatred; the patriotism that loves to hate America because of its many flaws; the perverse patriotism of Reverend Wright which will damn America and condemn it to hell until there's justice and equality for all. Not until the ideal becomes the real, not until the old America is destroyed and remade anew in the image of socialist heaven, not until the state conquers liberty and a benevolent tyranny reigns, will the Obamas of this country love America. This is patriotism deferred, held back until the radical future is here. It is not the patriotism of you and me. It is not love of country.

In Obama's confused and clouded mind, clouded by utopian ideas, our capitalist democracy is not just a contemptible thing, it's a danger to the world and horribly serving it: horribly serving its peace, its security, its environment and climate; horribly serving its poor, oppressed, downtrodden peoples; horribly serving the collective good of the world. America, in short, is not a good world citizen and must be saved from itself and radically changed; saved from the small-minded, patriotic, warmongering, polluting nationalist Right; saved from the sins of greed, profit seeking, selfishness and individualism; saved from men like Joe the Plumber and the menacing Rush Limbaugh who tears the mask away from Obama's face every chance he gets. In short, we must be saved from the old America of Ronald Reagan and John Wayne and join the New Age of enlightened world servers if humanity and the imperiled planet are to survive.

Obama has a solemn duty and mission to humanity to transform this country into the United Socialist States of America: into a massive welfare, healthcare, ecological friendly nanny state free of poverty, disease and environmental pollution-his idea of "a more perfect Union:" one nation at peace under an all caring government run by public spirited bureaucrats with education, healthcare and jobs for all. In Obama's world view his messianic America is the master key to world peace; an irresistible model of social justice and wealth sharing, a true "city on a hill" that humanity will love and want to emulate. Obama is humanity's last chance for Utopia, last chance to save America and fix the world. He's the last best hope of the socialist idea the ultimate answer to evil on earth. If he fails all is lost and the world is doomed, doomed to the perils of global warming, doomed to poverty, terror and war. Doomed to naked capitalist greed. Doomed to the cigar smoking Rush Limbaughs.

In their abysmal ignorance what the Obamas of America fail to understand is that this imperfect, democratic capitalist country, with its many sins and flaws, is the most powerful instrument forged by God for doing good in the world. No nation in history has done more to advance the political, technological and economic progress of mankind; none has done more for the cause of freedom, justice, world peace and human rights. None has done more for morality and civilization. Given the short time of our history the sum of our achievements is astounding. America is the great world server, there is none greater. In fact, there is nothing better this country can do for humanity than return to its roots and let America be America.

Obama's agenda to remake America, to transform it not simply reform it, can only damage and weaken us economically and militarily; it can only hurt the indispensable role that we play as peacekeeper in the world. A role that no one can replace or duplicate. In fact, the world is starting to change for the worse as America under Obama's inept and bungling leadership is showing signs of being a force for instability, uncertainty and woe. For Obama's foreign policy is an extension of his domestic agenda to socialize America; and to pursue his domestic plans in peace without the distraction of overseas conflicts, he is willing, so it seems, to take huge risks and outdo Neville Chamberlain in accommodating and placating our foes: "Obama is keener in cultivating our enemies than in courting our friends.... and this is causing panic in our allies," said Amir Taheri (see note 1).
Slowly and painfully unfolding is the Obama Doctrine, a foreign policy of retreat and appeasement which stands the Bush Doctrine of national security, preemption and democracy on its head. It is almost certain that before this misguided man finishes implementing his destructive domestic plans we will be a poorer, weaker and less secure nation divided and in turmoil-a nation vastly less capable of playing its global role as peacekeeper. And with the weakening of American, its credibility, power and resolve the world will be a more unstable, deadly and terrifying place-a world in upheaval with war drums beating everywhere.


Postscipt

The unmistakably ominous sign that appeasement of enemies would be the governing principle of Obama's foreign policy, driven by his domestic agenda of turning America into "A More Perfect Union" of socialist states was given on March 18, 2008. That was the date Obama gave us his forgetable speech on "A More Perfect Union" at Reverend Wright's birthplace of Philadelphia. As I wrote last summer in "Obama Maharaji," March 18th coincided with the 139th anniversary of Neville Chamberlain's birth, and came one day after David Paterson was sworn in as New York's first black governor. I likened Obama's speech following Paterson's oath of office to one blind man following another as I read into Paterson's physical blindness a prophetic warning of Obama's mental blindness, ignorance and dangerous naivety.

The sad fate of Paterson's governorship is, I believe, propehtic of Obama's presidency. For Paterson is proving to be a dangerously weak, beleagered, incompetant liberal chief executive who has plunged New York into "fiscal bedlem" and is losing the goodwill of New Yorkers and credibility with the state's Democratic lawmakers (see note 2). The Paterson disaster is what's ahead for Obama. Obama is Paterson on a national and international scale soon to lose goodwill and credibility everywhere.

The second grave warning that Obama would be another Neville Chamberlain setting the stage for an international catastrophe was given on the 38th day of this year when Joe Biden attended the adminstration's first overseas foreign policy and security conference in Munich-the city where Hitler turned Chamberlain into one of history's sorriest fools thus paving the way for World War II (see "Joe Biden Does Munich 2009" found on page 3 of this blog).
