GEORGE BUSH AND HISTORY ROB OBAMA OF VICTORY

Obama secretly flew into Iraq yesterday and facing a crowd of 600 cheering troops declared: "It is time for us to transition to the Iraqis. They need to take responsibility for their country."Need to what? Take responsibility for their country? Don't make me laugh! The vast majority of Iraqis want that very thing as is stated in SOFA, the security and withdrawal agreement between the US and Iraq. Iraqis, government and people, want to shed their military dependence on America and want all US combat troops out of Iraq by the end of 2011.

Why can't Obama be honest and state the truth instead of sounding as if SOFA didn't exist, and the decision to leave Iraq was his? Is he hoping that the public has forgotten about SOFA so he can claim credit for the troop withdrawal as his achievement? It appears so. It burns this little, weak  vain glorious man that Bush beat him to the punch and worked out the withdrawal plan to end the war. It burns him that Bush was LBJ and Richard Nixon rolled into one: both starting the land war and negotiating the terms for ending it. It burns him that SOFA was signed by Bush and Maliki shortly before he took office. He must have taken this personally, as a slap in the face, as an intentional affront, as an insult. The man who rode the antiwar movement into the presidency promising to negotiate a timetable to end the war feels cheated by Bush and history, robbed of the honor and glory that should have been his. Jimmy Carter had the Camp David Accords between Egypt and Israel to save his presidency from total failure, and LBJ had the Civil Rights Act; but Obama might not be so lucky and end his term with little or nothing; little or nothing to show for the towering hopes that he raised-ending his term with an America worse off because of his stupidity, blunders and misguided policies. As he is compelled to follow Bush's script in leaving Iraq and can claim no victory or trophy for himself Obama will never forgive his predecessor and bash and blame him endlessly till the public is sickened by it and votes his sorry arse out of office.
