At his town hall meeting in Strasbourg, France on April 3rd Barack Obama suffered an embarrassing moment similar, I believe, in its significance to the unprecedented bungling of his oath of office on Inauguration Day. For midway through his speech Obama's teleprompter suddenly froze causing him to pause until it got rolling again. What was fascinating was the word that somehow failed to appear on the screen at that moment; a word that he couldn't recall with his poor, befuddled unaided brain; the most important word in his political lexicon that sums up his bankrupt ideology and world view; the principle of principles that motivates all he does and lives for; the fatally flawed vision driving him and our economy to catastrophic ruin. This is what happened that day play by play:
After assuring his French audience that "transformational change is possible (meaning government perfecting society)," Obama then cites the reasons why its possible, saying: "First, because, for all our differences, there are certain values that bind us together and reveal our common humanity: the universal longing to live a life free from fear and free from want, a life marked by dignity and respect and simple justice." Stop right there! You will notice what he didn't say. You will notice that individual liberty, the core principle of the Founders and Framers, was missing replaced by (material) safety and security as the "universal longing" of mankind-the conditions promised by all despots, tyrants and totalitarian regimes feeding on human weakness, insecurity and fear. Obama then continues: "Our two republics (America and France) were founded in service of these ideals. In America it is written into our founding documents as life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. In France, liberte -- "
Here is where his teleprompter froze and left him in the lurch. After citing with no difficulty our founding ideals of "life, liberty and pursuit of happiness (of free, self-governing men providing safety, security and happiness for themselves)" he then cites the ideals of the French Revolution: “liberty, equality and fraternity,“ but is tripped up on the all important word "equality;" the ideal that in reality divided the French Revolution from the American; the ideal that turned revolutionary France, Russia, China, Cuba, Cambodia, Vietnam, Iraq and North Korea into orgies of terror and blood where millions died so that the living could be free of "want and fear."
That Obama's malfunctioning teleprompter should confound him on this very word and no other is, I believe, an unmistakable sign of where his revolution is going: that his quest for equality is his stumbling block and will be his undoing (see note 1); it's a sign prefiguring the fate of his "New Foundation:" his revolution to collectivize our insecurities and fears and replace individual liberty, the great foundational principle of our republic, with egalitarian spread the wealth, tax and spend leveling socialism-the directing idea of FDR's failed New Deal and LBJ's disastrous War on Poverty. Obama's reckless dream of "a more perfect Union" free of "want and fear"-of entitlements galore in a materially safe and secure America regardless of the costs-is the blind, fatalistic force that is driving his presidency into the abyss and the radical Left to its political and cultural apocalypse.
