In his Town Hall article "Survey This" Burt Prelutsky surmised that on his death bed best selling atheist author Christopher Hitchens would "hedge his bet by calling for a minister, a priest, a rabbi, an imam or a witch doctor." I disagree with Burt, Hitchens will do no such thing but will die in the "dignity" of his atheist faith with no "superstitious fool" giving him last rites.
However, I will make this post-mortem prediction which is non-confirmable: When Hitchens passes from this world and is shocked to discover that his thinking mind is still alive having survived the death of his brain he will curse God for having been wrong about his complete mortality and robbing him of the gift of extinction. For the materialistic atheist hates his life and all existence, thinks it a huge cosmic joke or meaningless tragedy, the comic-tragic play of luck and chance, and conceives salvation as being free of it all in a state of nothingness and non-existent oblivion. What a God of Salvation is to the believer who loves his life, glories in existence and thirsts for immortality, nothingness is to the self-hating atheist who limits human existence to a speck of time and has less wisdom than a primitive witch doctor.
