In today's Huffington Post leftist blog queen Arianna Huffington wrote a piece called "The Torture Moment" warning her readers that this is a "defining moment for America" and that the evil torturers of the Bush administration must be brought to justice. Arianna, it seems, wants catharsis not justice; for unmentioned in her piece is the torture that the nation painfully endures on a regular basis; the real torture moment for our country that should be stirring her concern: the torture of a Robert Gibbs press conference.
Never has a press secretary put me through such spiritual agony, a dark night of the soul. Never have I felt so barren, empty, dry and cold as when I see this man perform. If I was listening to him from the other world I think I'd be in purgatory tormented by thirty devils. For when Gibb's shows his happy face my heart dries up like a prune or feels like the dark side of the moon-compared to him Ron Ziegler was a sweetheart. If I were a captured terrorist and Gibbs was my interrogator I'd turn my soul inside out to end the session and be rid of him. While Obama bashes Bush on waterboarding he sadistically subjects the public to Gibbs. Is Gibbs punishment for having elected and reelected George Bush? A taste of Bush's medicine for terrorists? For Sheikh Khalid's 183 dips? Or could it be that the bloodless Obama is so obtuse and emotionally dull that he can't feel the pain of our suffering souls and that of the press core? It's times like this that I long for an empathetic president, for a woman like Bill Clinton to hug me, love me and bleed for me.
But as the liberal media and blagosphere give Obama a pass on his mass torturing press secretary the question remains: will justice one day catch up with him? When he leaves office will prosecutors in Spain bring Obama to trial for the Guantanamo-like horrors of Abu Gibbs? If they do then that will be a great defining moment in the history of transnational justice. Then we will have "reclaimed our soul" and the world will live as one. Are you listening Arianna?
