On February 6th of this year, on what would have been Ronald Reagan's 98th birthday (the President who gave us "peace through strength") our very anti-Reagan, soft-on-terror, peace through apologies President had an hour long meeting at the White House with 40 family members of victims who died during the USS Cole bombing and the 9/11 attack.
Among the 40 was 9/11 widow and activist Beverly Eckert. Mrs. Eckert was co-chairperson of Voices of 9/11 a small group of September 11 widows, mothers, and children who became amateur lobbyists and succeeded in forcing Congress in 2004 to pass sweeping reforms of the U.S. intelligence system to make our country safer.
Six days after her meeting with Obama Beverly Eckert met with tragedy over the skies of Upstate, New York as she was among the 50 victims of Flight 3407. She was on her way to a memorial in honor of her husband given at the high school where they first met. The plane crashed in Clearance, the town where the school was located. I wrote about Beverly Eckert and Flight 3407 back in February but completely missed her meeting with Obama (see FLIGHTS 1549, 3407 AND 9/11 ).
You could not ask for a more ominous sign warning about the potentially devastating consequences of Obama's national security policies and feckless wartime leadership. I'll have more to say about this in my soon to be published: The Opening of Pandora's Box: Nancy Pelosi, Torturegate and Signs of the Next 9/11.
