TEHRAN 1979? OR TIANANMEN SQUARE 2009? (REVISED)

The big question making the rounds about events in Iran is: will the widespread outrage and anti-regime unrest triggered by Friday’s presidential election translate into a 1979 type revolution with the mullahs sharing the fate of the Shah and being ousted from power? Or will the protests be ruthlessly crushed like the Tianammen Square Movement in China ten years later? The student protests at Tiananmen began on April 15th, 49 days before the death of Ayatollah Khomeine on June 3rd. Ominously on June 4th as Ali Khameine was being sworn as Khomeine's successor the brutal Chicoms were massacring protesters in Tiananmen Square crushing the pro-democracy. Not a very auspicious sign that the mullah regime is about to fall to the democratic movement erupting
throughout Iran.

Sadly, 20 years to the day from the end of Tiananmen and Khameine’s assumption of power, Barack Obama delivered his Moslem Outreach Speech in Cairo signaling that his feckless leftist foreign policy of apology, appeasement and accommodation would achieve nothing with fascist Iran and have a demoralizing effect on the democratic forces throughout the unfree Middle East and greater Moslem world.

Postscript I: George H. W. Bush and Tiananmen Square

Incredible as it is the Tiananmen Square protest began 85 days into the presidency of George H. W. Bush; on June 12th, the day Iran held its presidential election Bush turned 85. Another terrible sign that a brutal Tiananmen crackdown is coming to Iran.

Postscript II: Iranian Revolutionary Guard

Anti-regime protestors are aiming at a 1989 type "Velvet Revolution" resulting in the establishment of democratic rule. But, on the other hand, the powerful 125,000 man terrorist Iranian Revolutionary Guard, which has a huge ideological, geo-political and financial stake in the survival of the status quo (Khameine-Ahmadinejad), is preparing for a crushing 1989 Tiananmen Square-type crackdown of the pro-democracy movement.
