WAS LING AND LEE OBAMA'S RONALD REAGAN MOMENT?

With the happy, surprise release of Ling and Lee from a communist hell hole in North Korea it would appear that Obama had what I call a Ronald Reagan moment on his 48th birthday. You will recall that Ayatollah Khomenie ended the 444 day hostage crisis and freed 52 Americans 20 minutes after Reagan was sworn into office. The liberation of the 52 was an auspicious sign for a man who was destined to be one of the greatest liberator presidents in US history after Lincoln and FDR (see). But there was a negative side to the ending of this crisis which pertains to the freeing of Ling and Lee:

For the release of the 52 did nothing to improve US-Iranian relations. On the contrary, in 1983 Iran ordered Hezbollah to attack the US barracks in Beirut killing 299 US servicemen.

Then came the embarrassing Iran-Contra Scandal where the Reagan administration was misled into believing that an arms for hostages deal with Khomenie would lead to a thawing of relations and an era of US-Iranian goodwill. But Khomenie would not have it.

Then came Operation Prayer Mantis in the Persian Gulf with Reagan ordering our fleet to fire on Iranian oil platforms and military vessels in response to attacks on US ships. This tragically ended on July 3, 1988 with a US warship accidentally shooting down an Iranian commercial jetliner carrying 290 passengers and crew.

As for the freeing of Ling and Lee, conveniently on Obama's 48th birthday, it seems to have added to the portentousness of the day (see essay below). For Obama used a mortified Bill Clinton to fetch the prisoners; mortified because he was forced into boosting the image of an evil murderous regime that betrayed his goodwill and toyed with him for years on its nuclear weapon's program. Posing for pictures with the psychopathic Kim was the last thing Bill Clinton wanted to do; and his horribly grim face will long be remembered as a sad day for US diplomacy.

Postscript

Ling and Lee were arrested by North Korea on March 17th of this year, the 56th day of Obama's presidency. They spent 140 days in jail being released on Obama's 196th day in office. What do the numbers 56, 140 and 196 have in common, and what could they possibly signify? Besides being even numbers evenly divisible by the numbers 2 and 4, they are factors of the number 1960 indicating a specific year and the start of a new decade of ominous significance for Obama. For 1960 was the the year of JFK's election-a tragic president-and the start of an epoch making decade when the hedonistic, anti-American counter culture left was born*- which, I believe-is about to reach its destructive end under our first 60s born president.

What has this to do with North Korea? North Korea is the implacable enemy of freedom and a dangerous proliferator of nuclear technology aiding Iran and Syria in becoming nuclear armed states. In fact, North Korea has replaced North Vietnam as our principle foe in Asia. As the dovish and treacherous Sixties world view now dominates Washington*-"make love not war," "America is the enemy, etc."-lethal foes like North Korea will prosper in the Obama years with America and the forces of freedom suffering proportionately.

*It is no historical accident that Nancy Pelosi of San Francisco (birthplace of the counter culture movement) is (of all numbers) our 60th House Speaker. I'll have more to say on this subject in my upcoming work: The Rise and Fall of Barack Obama.

Postscript ll: Obama Gifts Himself with Ling and Lee

Did Obama intentionally set the date of August 4th for the rescue of Ling and Lee to give himself a birthday gift? In other words, did he stage this event with the Norks as an act of political desperation to bolster his sagging fortunes and battered ego? The answer is yes. The event with Clinton, Kim, Ling and Lee was designed to converge with Obama's birthday making it more of an act of self-serving narcissism than a humanitarian concern for Ling and Lee's freedom. While
release of the two women was a good thing for them and their families, sending Bill Clinton to fetch them was an unwarrented concession to a rogue regime that damaged US foreign policy while worsening Obama's image as a weak and feckless leader. Unfortuantely, with the freeing of Ling and Lee the US is now seen by our enemies as being more vulnerable to blackmail and hostage taking; and the world has been made a more deadly and dangerous place.
