Militant Islam's eternal war with the United States and Western world began with the Ayatollah Khomenie and the Iranian Revolution; and the father of this revolution, the man who midwifed it into being with his misguided policies and leftist dreams, was James Earl Carter. Declaring America the Great Satan and the enemy of God, Khomeine backed the seizure of our embassy in Tehran, an act of war by student radicals which triggered the train of terrorist events that led to 9/11 and beyond.
Declaring to the world that America had "overcome its inordinate fear of Communism" (as we have now overcome our excessive fear of terrorism) the Truman Doctrine, the global defense of freedom against Communist expansion, wasn't central to Carter's foreign policy-though the Cold War was still a reality. The Truman Doctrine led us into two costly wars in Korea and Vietnam (as the Bush Doctrine led us into Iraq and Afghanistan) and we could no longer risk another military venture to contain the spread of Communism. Carter killing the Truman Doctrine replaced anti-Communism with human rights as the "absolute" cornerstone of US foreign policy; as the standard to judge all nations. America was now at war with human rights violators in general not Communist regimes in particular which sort the destruction of the Free World. Governments, Communist or not, that violated the rights of their people would be deemed enemies of morality and punished accordingly no matter how friendly or opposed to Communist aggression and tyranny. That was the Carter Doctrine in theory; but in practice Carter's crusade was principally aimed at authoritarian regimes friendly to the West, not to enemy Communist states, and it created chaos.
The Shah of Iran, America's closest Moslem ally in the Middle East, a pro-Western secular monarch who wanted to modernize his people against the forces of Medieval darkness led by the lunatic Khomenie, incarcerated subversive anti-Western Khomeniacs by the droves. The American Left went berserk over the Shah's justified actions, and Carter wanting to appease them, and prove his seriousness on human rights, sided with their folly and forced the Shah to release the Khomeniacs. That was the beginning of the end for the Shah and the start of Iran's transformation into the world's most powerful and deadliest terror state-now seeking hegemony over the Middle East and the augmenting of its lethal power with nuclear arms.
Iran's nuclear weapons program began with Khomenie shortly before his death in 1989. Believing that Iran's divine destiny of turning Islamic supremacy into a new and menacing caliphate was a fantasy without the bomb Khomenie gave his blessings to the program that is now bearing fruit. Iran can't compete on the world stage and fulfull its mission as the superpower of Moslem tyranny unless it joins America, Russia, China, etc., and enters the nuclear age. The Iranian Revolution to Islamize the world, its backing of global terror and building the bomb are inseparable and nonnegotiable. Outside of acquiring the ultimate weapon of terror and death Iran's revolution has little substance, meaning and worth. The global victory of Khomenism, the ideal of a one world Moslem state, is impossible without the bomb. It's either victory or death. The bomb or bust. To stop Iran from going nuclear the regime must be destroyed. There is no other way.
As Obama plays checkers with the chessmasters of Tehran, who outfox him at every turn, the evil day of the terrorist bomb approaches. Which brings us back to Jimmy Carter. As a warning to the world on the futility of nuclear talks with Tehran, and the terrible abyss opening before us, negotiations began in Geneva on Thursday October 1st-as Jimmy Carter was celebrating his 85th birthday*. An omen of evil that couldn't be worse.
*Carter was born October 1, 1924.
Postscript: The Carterization of Nuclear Negotiations
Dissident Iranian journalist Amir Taheri makes the point that to date there have been three UN resolutions requiring Iran to STOP all activities related to the enrichment of uranium, which they have repeatedly ignored*. Now because of our blundering president's "shocking" revelation of the previously secret enrichment plant near Qum the focus has shifted away from the violated resolutions to inspecting this facility in three weeks time. Taheri asks: Why three weeks when under the Non Proliferation Treaty the UN inspectors have the authority to go there today? Why can't Obama show some spine and demand that the inspectors go there now? What are the Iranians doing at the plant in the meantime? SANITIZING IT. Now you know why negotiations with Iran began on Carter's birthday: THE PROCESS IS COMPLETELY CARTERIZED. Weak, ineffectual, inane.

*The first resolution was issued September 18, 2004. Three days later Iran defiantly announced that it would continue its enrichment program. 17 resolutions were issued against Saddam. The UN has a lot of catching up to do.
