Global Warmers tried to set the world on fire with their predictions of planetary doom. Now they're rapidly dwindling into another failed end of the world religious cult like the Jehovah Witnesses.
The first line of yesterday's satirical piece, the Death of Global Unity, could have been written this way: Man made global warming, the Left's new age principle of global unity, died in Copenhagen last week as the reality of clashing national interests relentlessly asserted itself. The international movement based on this principle was doomed from the start because (like Communism and Socialism) it is an infantile flight from reality into a utopian dream world based on false science, hysterical fears and audacious hopes for a new world order of justice, peace and centralized economic control. Sooner or later the economic self-interest of developing nations, China, India, Saudi Arabia, etc., and true facts about climate change would assert themselves thus shattering the credibility and messianic pretensions of this movement. Between Climategate and Copenhagen this crack up and shattering has begun.
Indeed, Friday December 18, 18 years after the Rio Earth Summit, was the day of reckoning for the international Left and its dream of a global Green Revolution; it was the day of defeat for killing Capitalism and restructuring the world economy around climate change and egalitarian lines; the day of defeat for expanding LBJ's domestic War on Poverty ("a war that poverty won") into a global program of economic control, regulation and wealth redistribution clothed in the holy shroud of saving planet earth.
The big question before us is this: where can the international Left go from here? As global warming stealthily replaced naked Socialism as the basis and organizing principle for a one world socialist state what will replace global warming? What new hoax will the Left devise to keep itself alive? What new man caused world catastrophe will it conjure up to scare us with? Or is it curtains for the Left? Is it totally bankrupt of ideas and running on empty to its death? Is global warming and climate change its last hurrah before it disappears? In other words, was the Left Waterlooed at Copenhagen? The answer, I believe, is YES. After the collapse of Soviet Communism the global warming scare was more about saving the radical Left from extinction than the earth from destruction. In short, beyond the ideology of global warming awaits the ash heap of history for the earth saving one world secular progressive Left. This ideology is in its sunset.
