BILL O’REILLY: BOLD, FRESH AND INCORRECT

Last night on the Factor (see) a deluded Bill O'Reilly congratulated himself for out predicting most of the "Obama haters" and "cool aid drinkers" on the Right by "correctly" foreseeing Obama's move to the center with a proposal to freeze spending. Indeed, O'Reilly used this apparent concession to the Right as proof that he is wiser, more prescient and balanced in his views than Rush, D*ck Morris, Hannity and Beck, and the rest of the anti-Obama Right most of whom believe that he's a hopeless big government socialist ideologue; a leopard who can't change his spots determined to stay his disastrous course to the bitter end (see).

O'Reilly then played a clip from his Talking Points of January 20 where he made his prediction: "If "Obama wants to make a comeback [after Massachusetts] then he must simplify healthcare and cut spending and taxes to stimulate the economy and create jobs." Wanting to make a comeback Obama now sees the light and taking O'Reilly's advice he is moving rightward by proposing a spending freeze. Bully for Bill; what a coup for the hated superstar of Fox News who the White House sees as an enemy; or could it be that his prediction was pure bull? What he predicted was "spending cuts" not a spending freeze; the two are not the same thing which means that O'Reilly predicted nada, zilch, nothing.

Indeed, assuming the best that Obama is serious about his proposal and that it's not mere gimmickry to fool the folks nonetheless where is his movement to the Right claimed by O'Reilly? How is a freeze a movement anywhere? When O'Reilly's standing still where is he moving? A freeze means the absent of movement in any direction left, right, up, down, forwards, backwards, sideways. A freeze on spending means putting a stop to the rise in expenditures not ending the insanity of massive unsustainable deficits. Conservatives want substantial and meaningful cuts in federal spending to roll back the dangerous bankrupting deficit which is adding significantly to our crushing debt; not a freeze on spending at insane levels that continue our death march to oblivion. These deficits are Radical not Conservative. If they were needed to defend our freedoms in wartime that’s one thing, then we would have to go for broke; but they serve no purpose other than growing the size of government at the expense of our freedoms. Moving to the Right can only mean one thing: Shrinking the size and scope of government. We don’t vehemently oppose Obama because we hate him personally. We oppose him and seek to wreck his plans because we love our liberty and great prosperity.

O'Reilly is reading way too much into Obama's proposal and has fallen for his trick. Hopelessly hoping that the Michael Jackson of American politics is growing up (see); that he's ending his love affair with himself, big government and the Neverland radical Left; that heeding the lesson of Massachusetts and a protracted economic mess O'Reilly is hoping that Obama's spending freeze is the real deal; that it's the first step toward significant deficit cuts and saving the republic from fiscal collapse. As for Obama fulfilling O’Reilly’s predictions and moving to the Right this has only happened in his head.

Postscript: Newt

In O'Reilly's debate with Newt Gingrich last night that Obama's proposed spending freeze is moving him to the Right Newt was suspicious that it is all a big lie. Then silencing O'Reilly Newt finally said that if the President vetoes the $80 billion jobs bill, which would add to the deficit if signed into law, then we'll know that he's real about a spending freeze.

Newt is correct! If Obama is serious about a freeze then he can fund the $80 billion from the $500 billion in unspent stimulus funds. But I'll bet the barn that Obama does do it as he is determined to spend and spend and spend thinking with Krugman, Reich and the statist Left that it's the only way out of this economic morass (see).
