Arianna dear, you have much more to fear from our poor misguided fool of a president than you do from Glenn Beck however somewhat fearful he is that Obama is leading a leftwing conspiracy to intentionally destroy the economy. If Richard Hofstadter, whose essay you cited on ABC on paranoia in politics, were alive today he would have approached Glenn Beck a different way, like more intellectually: showing that Obama for all his ignorance and flaws at worst was crashing the economy unknowingly and that Beck is simply wrong; or at best the reverse was true: that the economy was recovering which would put Beck and his predictions in a stew.
If you believe in Obama and his stimulus plans-which never worked for anyone from Hoover to the Japanese-then why not challenge Beck's "wrong" view that he's taking us to the economic slaughter house, and that the middle class is coming back. Wouldn't that make better sense? It's better than making an arse of yourself trying to prove what isn't true: that Beck is a hell raising demagogue intentionally inciting hatred and racial violence against the President-as if he were a rightwing Father Coughlin. That's paranoia, too.
