ANDREW SULLIVAN AND THE WARNING OF A COMING CIVIL WAR

"If they [rightwingers] defeat him [Barack Obama], I fear we will no longer be participating in a civil conversation, however fraught, but in a civil war" warns Andrew Sullivan.

Andrew Sullivan, like many on the Left, is in intellectual chaos and near nihilistic despair over Obama's failing presidency, and fading hopes of reelection. From the 7th heaven of Obama's historic victory where everything seemed like sweetness and light expanding endlessly over the horizon in a golden age of national unity and global social transformation Sullivan is now gazing into the abyss and is coming dangerously close to completely losing it-of taking the plunge into total darkness.

Apocalyptic fantasies of a second bloody American civil war, this time between Left and Right when the latter's in power, are invading and unhinging Sullivan's darkening mind as he dimmly foresees, or is unconsciously intimating, a deadly backlash, insurrection, or leftist Arab Spring should Obama lose next year. This doesn't surprise me. I warned of this two years ago. I warned that Obama's inevitable and necessary failure-"inevitable" because of his mental and moral unfitness for the presidency, and "necessary" for the collapse of the hard political Left and death of the Utopian Dream (the unAmerican radical equality and social justice thing)-would revive the Weather Underground and terror from the Left. I warned that when Saul Alinsky's leftist path of "bloodless revolution" fails (Obama is an Alinskyite) it will give rise to a rebirth of Leninism and Che Guevara types, to punish America with death and destruction for its social evils and sins. This will certainly happen again, as we see signs of it in Sullivan's bloody and incoherent thinking.

Now I'm not accusing Sullivan of advocating leftwing violence against Conservatives, Republicans and Tea Party patriots if they manage to seize control of Washington. Far from it. Sullivan, though a radical leftist (he sees small government tea partiers as "fanatical anarchists" and the GOP "the party of the Confederacy"), is not a violent man-he wouldn't hurt a hair on a rightwinger's head. But his fantasy of a coming civil war if Obama loses is emblematic of the Left's mounting and potentially explosive frustrations with the political process, Constitution, and two party system (which isn't working for them); it's a dire sign and warning of many on the Left giving into their worst impulses and fears of advancing marginalization and irrelevance; of completely losing their rationality (what little they have) as their dreams of government supremacy over the economy and social justice heaven crash and burn with Obama's corrupt, bankrupting, and bungling statist presidency.
