TRAYVON MARTIN AND HIS GIRLFRIEND'S CELL PHONE CALL

At Huffington Post I asked an anti-Zimmerman poster named MorpheusXNYC who believes that George Zimmerman pursed, confronted and then gun downed Trayvon Martin in cold blood for proof of his allegations. He then
came back with the following answer based on the cell phone call that Martin's unidentified girlfriend allegedly had with him just moments before he was shot:

MorpheusXNYC on Apr 3, 2012 at 13:35:53

"Zimmerman tells the 911* operator to have the police meet him at the mailboxes by the entrance [of Twin Lakes] and then hangs up [at] 7:15 PM.

*[Because Trayvon Martin wasn't committing a crime Zimmerman made a non-emergency police call, not a 911 emergency call].

LESS THAN ONE MINUTE LATER, Trayvon's girlfriend on the phone with him hears Trayvon say "What are you following me for?" and hears Zimmerman say, "What are you doing around here?"

And then she believes that Zimmerman attacked Trayvon because she heard his earpiece fall, and then the line went dead at 7:16 PM.

If Zimmerman had gone to the mailboxes by the entrance to meet the police like he said he would, he would NOT have encountered Trayvon, who was all the way on the other side, far away from the entrance [of Twin Lakes].

Clearly, he chased Trayvon down, as we heard Zimmerman huffing and puffing on the 911 recording as he was running toward Trayvon and the ONLY way he would have encountered Trayvon is if he didn't go to the mailboxes and instead, went directly towards Trayvon against the 911 dispatcher's directions.

7:15 PM - Zimmerman hangs up with 911.
7:16 PM - Trayvon's GF hears the encounter between Trayvon and Zimmerman and the line goes dead.
7:17, the police arrive to find Trayvon shot dead.

The entire encounter between them took ONE minute from the time the call with Trayvon's girlfriend was dropped to the time the police arrived to find Trayvon shot and killed........
[see]."

My reply to Morpheus is as follows:

Assuming that Martin's girlfriend is telling the truth this much is certain: (as the police dispatcher agreed) Trayvon Martin was a suspicious person who made himself even more suspicious when he ran from Zimmerman that night. Now if Zimmerman (who has a different story) resumed his pursuit of Martin after finishing with the dispatcher it was because he feared that Martin "was up to no good" and had the safety of the community in mind; indeed, this is consistent with what Martin's girlfriend says: according to her story when Zimmerman caught up to Martin he simply asked him, "What are you doing around here"- a perfectly reasonable question for a watchman to ask a suspicious person who was a stranger in the neighborhood. Now if Martin was a reasonable, sensible, well-mannered young man (like family and friends say) he would have done the sensible thing and told Zimmerman the truth: that he was staying as a guest at his father's house; and that would have been the end of it. Zimmerman then would have phoned police to pin point Martin's location for them; and when they arrived they would have questioned him. But that was not to be. Instead, the little gangsta wannabe (with the gold capped teeth, multiple tattoos and derogatory screen name NO_LIMIT_ N*GGA) most likely took offense at Zimmerman-got all bent out of shape-thinking or saying to him, "who the f--k are you to question me*," and started swinging away-assaulting a good man with a long standing reputation of being a vigilant, responsible, conscientious resident and community watchman. In other words, the kid flew off the handle and viciously attacked Zimmerman;  he, not Zimmerman, was the aggressor in the conflict; he, not Zimmerman, blew his cool. Martin was in the wrong place, at the wrong time, doing the wrong things with the wrong attitude and assaulted the wrong man. He brought his fists to a fight that he started where his victim had a gun.

*In Zimmerman's account, as related by his father Robert, Martin approached him and said, "Do you have a f--king problem (see)?"

No sane person would believe that if Zimmerman defying the dispatcher's directions had resumed his pursuit of Martin that he did so with the intent of doing him harm; not when he had reported Martin to police on a non-emergency line; not when police were just minutes away from arriving. If we can believe the girlfriend's story far from shooting Trayvon first then asking questions Zimmerman, normal, reasonable watchman that he was, first asked questions. It's no wonder that after 40 days prosecutors can't build a case against Zimmerman; no wonder he hasn't been charged with a crime as there was no motive to harm Trayvon and he sustained injuries before firing the fatal shot. Zimmerman had made 911 and non-emergency police calls for years (totaling 46) about suspicious people in the neighborhood (including young black males) without incident, violence or death (see). But not that night. That night (unlike any other) Zimmerman confronted a stupid, combustible, hot headed teen who (like his thieving, lawless, riotous friends who ransacked and looted a Miami Walgreens) went berserk and punched him out knocking him down and beating his head on the ground. And now Martin's dead killed by a good man who (possibly escaping death, serious brain injury or being beaten into a coma) rightly defended himself against a warped paranoid teenage aggressor. In short, George Zimmerman encountered a little savage gangbanger (a ticking time bomb) who sooner or later might have killed or crippled someone, or suffered violent death like the tens of thousands of young black men murdered in our cities every year.

Postscript I: What Zimmerman And Martin Did That Led To The Tragedy

Morpheus said that if Zimmerman, on the deadly night of the shooting, had done this thing or hadn't done that, that Trayvon Martin would be alive today. Maybe so. But the same reasoning applies to Martin and his actions. If Martin was a good kid who kept out of trouble and respected the law he'd be alive today: he wouldn't have incurred a ten day suspension from school for a marijuana baggie and pipe which resulted in him staying at Twin Lakes with his dad that night. If he had returned home from the 7-11 walking on the lighted sidewalks or streets instead going behind the houses where it was dark and acting suspiciously*, he'd be alive today. If he hadn't run when he spotted Zimmerman watching and following him he'd be alive today. And assuming Martin's girlfriend's story is correct, if he had cooperated with Zimmerman when asked what he was doing instead of flipping out and breaking his nose he'd be alive today. Indeed, if Trayvon was irrationally or excessively offended by Zimmerman's questioning he could have simply answered 'What I'm doing here is my business not yours' and he'd be alive today.

* This is what Robert Zimmerman told the media and his son certainly told the cops (see).

In sum, Martin's drug abuse and school suspension led to his death. His suspicious behavior at Twin Lakes led to his death. And most likely his arrogant violent gangsta mentality which overly resented Zimmerman's questioning led to his death.

Postscript II: Questions?

What was Trayvon doing in back of the houses that evening when it wasn't his proper path home? Why was this kid who was caught with stolen jewelry and a burglar tool at school suspiciously looking at the houses, as Zimmerman reported to police (see)? If he was doing nothing wrong and not planning mischief or some crime that night (which he was capable of) why did he run from Zimmerman when the later was speaking to police? If he had nothing to hide why did he show unmistakable signs of paranoia and fear? What induced him to suspiciously run away as if he were guilty of something? Zimmerman at 5.9 weighing 170 pounds hardly had an intimidating appearance. Moreover, what did the police find on Martin's dead body that night? Zimmerman reported to the dispatcher that Martin "didn't look right" and that he might "be on drugs....." Did police find pot? pills? or burglar tools on Martin? Hopefully these and other vital questions will be answered in the weeks ahead.

Postscript III: Muscular Athlete Fast On His Feet

The tall, 160 pound, long legged Trayvon Martin was a fleet footed, muscular (stronger than he looks) athlete, a football player on his high school team who could probably outrun, outdistance and dance circles around the shorter 170 pound George Zimmerman. If Zimmerman continued to pursue Martin as his girlfriend says then Martin at some point stopped running and let Zimmerman catch up to him wanting a confrontation. Either that or Zimmerman is telling the truth that it was Martin who pursued him as he was returning to his SUV after obtaining an address from a nearby house. Either way it seems that Trayvon was a ticking time bomb who exploded with violence that night and that it was Zimmerman, overpowered by the much larger and stronger Martin, who was fighting for his life and survived because he had a gun.
