When George McGovern died late last month I wrongly believed that it was a sign that Barack Obama the McGovernite would be defeated by Mitt Romney just as McGovern was defeated by Richard Nixon. My mistake therefore can only mean one of two things: the timing of McGovern's death was purely accidental as it related to the election, or it wasn't. If it wasn't then it was a sign that Obama would win the election; it was a sign that the most deceitful and detestable president since Richard Nixon is the New Richard Nixon, and that like Nixon Obama will leave office in disgrace as Nixon did from Watergate. Now with Obama involved in a scandalous foreign policy and consulate security coverup far worse than Watergate could it be that 2012 is 1972 redux? And that Obama's second term will be as disastrous and tragic as Nixon's?
There are several interesting paralells between Obama and Nixon: while Obama beat Mitt Romney to keep himself in office as our 44th president 44 years ago, in 1968, Nixon defeated Mitt Romney's father George for the Republican nomination. Moreover, Obama was the first president since Nixon to inherit and end a war (the Iraq War) started by his predecessor (a president from Texas* but of the opposite party). Interestingly enough now there is talk about Obama going to Iran this spring to make a deal with the mullahs on their nuclear weapons program like Nixon went to China. But the most striking parallel of all is with Watergate. Just as the Watergate break-in occurred during the 1972 election when McGovern was running for president, so too Benghazigate and the death of Ambassador Stevens happened during the 2012 election when George McGoven died. In short, if Obama wasn't McGovern then he must be the new Richard Nixon.
*Like George W. Bush Lyndon Johnson was a Texan.
POSTSCRIPT I
40 YEARS AND 40 DAYS
As Watergate is to Benghazigate so is Benghazigate to the death of George McGovern. This is what I mean: from the Watergate break-in of June 17, 1972 to the scandalous assassination of Ambassdaor Stevens was 40 years; and from the deadly al-Qaida attack on the Benghazi consulate on September 11, 2012 to McGovern's death October 21st was exactly 40 days.
Richard Nixon was born on January 13, 1913. Barack Obama was born 48 years later on August 4, 1961. If you calculate the number of days seperating these dates it gives us the very interesting five digit number 17739. This number is interesting in that it can be rearranged to read as 19737. Why is this interesting? Because it was in the 7th month of 1973 that the Watergate scandal blew up in Richard Nixon's face; this was when Sam Ervin and the Senate Watergate Committee learned that Nixon had a voice activated tape recording system in the White House. This led to the discovery of the 18 minute gap which was the first blow dealt to Nixon's credibility. From then on it was all downhill.
In 2008 Obama smiled and lied his way to the White House portraying himself as a political messiah on a mission of national and global salvation. in 2012 his reelection team was Richard Nixon's dirty tricks squad on steroids. He smiled, lied and vilified his way to a second term winning election with no governing mandate as he lost 4 million votes from 2008 and failed to win back Congress for his party. Obama it seems is an ill-starred reelected president just like Richard Nixon was.
Postscript II
HILLARY CLINTON
While I'm on the subject of Benghazigate it's worth noting that George McGovern was laid to rest on October 26th the day Hillary Clinton (one of the chief Benghazigate conspirators) was celebrating her 65th birthday.
